Today was triathlon registration day and then a relaxing day followed by an early sleep time in preparation for tomorrow. Laura and I went down to Spanish Landing Harbor to register for tomorrow's race. I only got into the race because I sweet talked one of the race administrators into allowing me to enter the race earlier this week. We parked at the expo, found the administrator and finished registering. I also bought some race necessities such as Gu, Bodyglide, and random bike accessories.
After finishing the pre-race registration, we are starving! So after driving around downtown San Diego and passing by about five of Laura's favorite lunch spots, which we had to turn down because they were all too crowded. So after an additional 45 minutes of mindless driving, now we were super hungry. Laura finally decided on Baja Betty's, an all you can eat buffet Mexican restaurant. It was really, really good, and the best part......CHILE CON QUESO! Holy crap, queso is virtually impossible to find outside of Texas, and the queso here at Baja Betty's was really good! Not the best pre-race food, but I don't care, it was totally worth it.
After lunch, Laura wanted to visit the San Diego Zoo, so we used her summer pass to get in (by the way, the fact that Laura has a summer pass means she is as much of a nerd as I am....lol). The San Diego Zoo is considered one of the better zoo's in the country and I agree with that assessment, well laid out, clean, and cool exhibits that are visitor friendly.
The problem with today is that it was pretty damn close to 100 degrees out and the sun was beating down on everyone, including the animals. So basically I got a ton of pictures of animals laying down, asleep in the shade, or hiding from the sun altogether. Fantastic!
After checking out the pictures I took, I would love to hear some comments or emails giving me a good double entendre joke, especially involving elephants and elephant trunks, the bushmaster, the dik-dik, hippo's, two hippo's kissing, a bunch of hot chicks, etc. etc.
We rode the Skyfari which overlooks the entire zoo, in order to get to the polar bear exhibit. Of course they were sleeping in the shade as well, but just being that close to them was pretty damn exciting. The best was when the middle-aged woman next to us started talking about how polar bears love to eat penguins. WTF? Thanks to Coca-Cola, which ran a huge ad featuring polar bears and penguins, most dumbasses think they live close to each other. Too bad polar bears only live in the Northern Hemisphere or the Arctic Circle, while penguins only live in the Southern Hemisphere or Antarctica. That kind of horseshit really makes me angry.
After leaving the zoo, it was back to Laura's place for a much needed mid-day nap. We conked out for about three hours, and only awoke because I had to get some pasta (carbo loading) in me for dinner. We stopped into Bacione's, a small family owned restaurant run by Pearla, an employee of Naughty America. Evidently she not only works in the photoshopping department, but also works full time at the restaurant as well. Now that's work ethic.
We enjoyed a nice little dinner of pasta, Laura had the angel hair pasta with meat sauce, and I dined on rigatoni with parmesan cheese and some butter. Perfect pre-race dinner. After our meal, we stopped into Ralph's for some pre-race banana's and then I called it a night. Have to be up at 5am tomorrow! Wish me luck people!
